First of all, Blood Skies was released a month ago yesterday, and I’d like to thank everybody who has supported the novel, whether you purchased a copy, wrote a review, told your uncle’s mother’s grandmother’s great-aunt’s dog about it, Tweeted about it, Liked it, listened to me go on at length about some random idea or about my writer’s anxiety or my other debilitating social disorders, or…well, if you partook in any combination of the above, thanks! And while it hasn’t been the record-shattering success story I know that every Indie author dreams of, Blood Skies has somehow managed to sell steadily over the course of its first month of release, and based on the overall positive feedback I hope that trend continues.
But hey, as I’ve mentioned once or twice, I’m a writer, and a writer writes. And BOY, have I been writing!
And while I am still just over 4 chapters and a little over a week from being finished with the rough draft of the sequel to Blood Skies, I am so ridiculously jazzed about this project that I couldn’t help but tell you about it now. So, without further ado, I give to you the *mostly official (*mostly meaning that this blurb will almost undoubtedly change at some point) teaser blurb for yet another book whose title you can just shorten down to just “BS”, Black Scars:
Something ancient has awoken. Primordial and wholly evil, a living shadow emerges from a prison made weak by the magical cataclysm called The Black. Now the Sleeper stalks the land in search of its old enemies, leaving a trail of madness and destruction in its wake.
Eric Cross, a Southern Claw warlock, has been sent to find the only thing thought capable of stopping this evil: a lost monument called the Woman in the Ice. Aided by a grizzled ranger and a band of wardens and inmates from a sadistic and remote prison, Cross’ mission will bring him into conflict with the barbaric Gorgoloth, vampire shock troops, and a cadre of mercenary nihilists called the Black Circle.
His search will take him to a lost temple once ruled by insidious wolf sorcerers, to the vicious gladiator games of the vampire city-state of Krul, and to the deadly ruins of a city made of ice, where he will play a pivotal role in an ancient conflict whose outcome will determine the future not only of the world that Cross knows, but of worlds yet to be…
Well on it’s way to a 96,000 (!) word count, Black Scars is bigger, bloodier, darker and tons more vampire-ier than it’s predecessor. (As a point of reference, Blood Skies clocked in at just shy of 80,000 words.)
Need more coolness? Well stick around, I’m sure I’ll be blogging about this project a lot more than I should be over the next few weeks. It’s too soon to know for sure, but right now a late 2011 (probably November, maybe December) release date is well within reach.
Naturally, I’ll keep everyone posted as I work through the quagmire of edits, beta readings, cover design, etc. Thanks a ton for your support, and I hope you enjoy the books!
(Oh yeah, don’t forget to check out Tales of a Blood Earth tomorrow…only 4 installments left!)
