Welcome to Six-Sentence Sunday!
Because I’ve been having so much fun editing it, we’ll highlight yet another excerpt from Book 4 of the Blood Skies series, CROWN OF ASH.
This week’s excerpt catches up with heroine Danica Black after she is subjected to some horrific necromantic experiments by her old allies, the mercenary prison wardens called the Revengers. One of the side effects of those experiments are some truly awful visions of…well, see for yourself…
Images flash before her eyes: razor claws and blood, teeth filled with meat.
She sees dead cities on a frozen shore next to a black and oily sea. Blood vapors fill the meat-red sky. Black ships in the bay bear engines that grind bones and scour the air with pale flames.
Rows of still-standing dead bodies line up at the edge of the icy sea. The anemic corpses step one-by-one into the waters, where the howling waves consume them.
Thanks for stopping by! Be sure to head on over to Six Sunday and check out the other participating authors!

Eeeesh. Shivers down spine time. I really really hope that this is nothing more than a vision, it’s too horrible to think it might be anything more real. Great (and very vivid) six!
Hey, some allies those Revengers were! I’d be getting my money back! Poor Danica! I’m totes loaning her my boots now.
And sadly, I’m guessing she’s seeing something she’ll have to face, sooner than later. Thus, she’ll need every ally she’s got.
Teeth filled with meat. OMG that is equally horrible and fantastic. You creep me out every time with your disheartening vision of the world’s dark, bloody demise.
I’m with Monica! The meat-filled teeth grabbed my attention. I had to free myself before I could read the rest of the six.
And now, I will go floss my teeth.
Meat-red sky, following hard on the heel of meat filled teeth makes for a horrible mental image. Which is pretty good really
. Nice six.
Thank you ladies! Glad to creep you out! =D
Definitely horrific. As usual, great details: all rending some pretty guttural responses. I can see why this would be torture. To see a place like this and think it or know it to be true? Terrifying. Great chills.
Wow! Not the kind of vision I’d want to have in my head. Fantastic writing!
J.M., Jess, thank you! =D
