Welcome to Six-Sentence Sunday!
Continuing right along with our excerpts from THE WITCH’S EYE, this week we get back to Ronan as he recovers from the devastating climax of CROWN OF ASH. In this scene, Ronan takes his leave of a crippled and dying Revenger after he’s learned what he needs to know regarding the fate of his friends…
“You…you can’t just leave me here!” the Revenger shouted as Ronan walked away. “Christ, man, I’ve got a wife…”
“She’ll miss you,” Ronan said quietly as he left the screaming man behind. “I know your work: you and your fellow Wardens are scum. If you’re asking me for pity, you might as well save your breath.”
After a minute or so the screams turned to sobs, but Ronan kept moving, and soon he couldn’t hear the man at all.
Thanks for stopping by! Be sure to head on over to Six Sunday and check out the other participating authors!

Very bleak. I’ll have to hurry up and read Crown of Ash to find out the reason for Ronan’s apparent heartlessness!
Crown of Ash definitely will help explain why Ronan feels no pity for the Revengers, but you’ll actually learn a lot more about him in The Witch’s Eye. He’s had a…troublesome life, let’s say…
LOL! Are there any of your characters that HAVEN’T had a troublesome life?
Wow, just blew me away! Fantastic snippet, Steven!
Thanks Teresa!
What I think I love most about this is the sense of just how far Ronan’s come, based solely on his actions here, no need for extraneous verbiage telling me. Great six!
Thank you Vivien! =D
I think what’s so chilling about this is how calm Ronan seems about the whole thing.
As we discover in book 5, Ronan is actually quite used to and comfortable with committing cold-hearted acts. It’s almost second-nature to him.
I really like the contrast between these characters. Plus, I feel that any character who goes by-The Revenger-has to be awesome.
;D The Revengers are actually an entire organization of corrupt prison wardens. This poor sod is just one of many…and, based on the events of Book 4, Ronan has good cause not to like any of them.
You’ve got such a way with desolation. It’s equal parts chilling and riveting. I can’t help but read on.
Thanks J.M.! =D
Love this little look inside Ronan’s head. I must get on and read Crown of Ash for more…
Thanks Karen! The inside of Ronan’s head is kind of a scary place, but the guy has sort of grown on me.
I love a hero who knows who’s worth saving and who’s not. Ronan sounds like my kinda hero.
He’s quickly becoming one of my favorite characters. Hopefully he’ll make it through the series. Heh.
Tough to read. Bone-chilling. His unemotional demeanor gives me the creeps! Good six!
Thanks Carrie! Ronan isn’t the most cuddly guy. I’m glad he’s one of the good guys.
Cracking scene, Steven. Ronan seems hard but I bet he has good reason.
Aw man, that’s COLD! Great job
