Continuing (sort of) from last week, fallen knight Azander Dane arrives in the tumultuous city of Ebonmark looking for mercenary work.  What he finds is more than he bargained for.  After being offered a job by a shadowy woman named Vellexa, Dane meets her in a crime-ridden part of town, only to find her under attack by a band of apocalypse cultists.  Naturally Dane rushes to her aid.

They flashed sharpened teeth and hissed as they came at him with jagged scimitars.  The black-haired warriors bore bloody runes on their foreheads and wore necklaces of teeth over tarnished leather breastplates.

It was all Dane could do to parry their relentless blows as he backed away.  Pain pulsed up his arms with each ringing strike.  Mud kicked up around him and sweat glazed his skin.  He hissed as a scimitar painfully tore through the chain and flesh on his left arm, and blood splashed to the ground.

He glimpsed back him to see if Vellexa was going to help, but she’d vanished: he had to face the scarred killers alone.

Typical, he thought.

Thanks for dropping by, and have a great weekend!
